worship at Hillsdale First United methodist church

Come and see worship with us!

Worship at 9:30 am - in person in the sanctuary (and livestreamed)

Located in the Sanctuary on the main floor (level 1) of the church building this service’s music includes hymns and songs accompanied by the organ or piano, musical offerings from the Chancel Choir, handbell choir, soloists and instrumentalists. Prayers and readings from the Bible are led by the liturgist and pastor, and preaching is done by the pastor.

Children are welcomed in this service and activity bags are available from an usher to engage children in the pews during the service.

A projector screen is used to display song texts and liturgy, and much of the service liturgy is also in a printed bulletin. Hymnals and Bibles are contained in the pews, and large print hymnals and bulletins are available upon request. We are also working on re-implementing hearing assistance devices.

This service is also live-streamed weekly via our Facebook page, our YouTube page, and a phone-in service. Previous services are archived services online and also available via Facebook and YouTube.

(EVERY THIRD SUNDAY of the month ONLY) - Worship at 11:00 am - in person in the fellowship hall with BREAKFAST

Located in the Fellowship Hall on the lowest level of the church building around tables, this service’s music includes songs led by live vocalists and band. Videos, skits, narrations, and storyteller dramas are used to enhance the scripture and/or theme of the service. Prayers and readings from the Bible are led by the band worship team and pastor, and preaching is done by the pastor.

Children are welcomed in this worship service and may choose to go to a Children’s Church about half-way through the worship service (located in the classroom adjacent to the Fellowship Hall), or activity pages are provided on the tables for kids (and adults) of all ages.

A large screen tv is used to display all song texts and liturgy, and an outline of the service is available in a printed bulletin on the tables. Bibles are contained in a bin on the tables.

A free breakfast is served at the beginning of this service. Breakfast often consists of eggs & meat or a breakfast casserole, pastries, and fruit, and beverages. Breakfast is followed by songs, readings and prayers, and a message.

All floors are accessible by a newly installed elevator. Due to the layout of the building, the elevator has rear and front doors, with descriptions for which door will open on the corresponding floors. Restrooms are available on all levels. ADA compliant restrooms are located on the main level next to the sanctuary, and on the lowest level in the Fellowship Hall.

Holy Communion is served at least once a month at each service.

The table of Holy Communion is Christ's table, not the table of The United Methodist Church or of the local congregation. The table is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ's love and to lead a new life of peace and love, as the invitation to the table says.

Our Book of Worship says, "All who intend to lead a Christian life, together with their children, are invited to receive the bread and cup. We have no tradition of refusing any who present themselves desiring to receive" (page 29).
